I am so excited to hear that Malala Yousafzai will be coming to Providence to speak this summer. Tickets are not on sale yet, but I certainly hope to be there to hear her. She is an amazingly inspirational speaker.

This announcement reminded me of a quilt shared with me by Jodi Scaltreto whom I met when I was lecturing at Hannah Dustin Quilt Guild last year. Jodi had been so inspired by Malala that she created this quilt. Jodi says, “It is to represent Malala and for all the young ladies in countries where girls are not allowed to get an education and are held back in life. I heard Malala speak on the news shows and was so impressed that she is so well spoken for a person so young. I had this painted face in my studio and decided to redo it to make it more like a person of muslim character with the hijab and I call it Girl In Hijab.”

If you have a quilt you would like to share, please let us know. And if you are planning on going to hear Malala in July, I hope I will see you there!
